Psychiatric patients experience prolonged hospitalization due to lack of specialized outpatient care

Psychiatric patients in Curaçao are forced to remain hospitalized at Capriles longer than medically necessary because specialized mental health care services are unavailable in the community. This creates bed shortages, increases healthcare costs, and delays treatment for other patients who need acute psychiatric care. Current healthcare infrastructure lacks the specialized outpatient and transitional care programs needed to safely discharge and manage patients in the community.
