Academics struggle to cite informal online discussions as legitimate evidence in scholarly work

Researchers and academics face uncertainty about whether and how to properly cite StackExchange questions and answers in formal academic papers, as these sources lack traditional peer review and institutional credibility. Current citation standards don't adequately address informal online knowledge sources, forcing academics to either exclude valuable evidence or risk their work's credibility.
